Fans of hit Netflix series Virgin River are being encouraged to check out another show which is available to stream for free on ITVX. That programme is Hart of Dixie, which features a surprising connection to Virgin River thats sure to grab attention.

On reddit, one viewer asked for series recommendations to fill the void after finishing the latest season of Virgin River. They wrote: “Finished Season 6 and damn I’m seriously mourning right now. I made a list, so please help me rank the top 3 shows that exactly give Virgin River vibes. Thanks!”
Their list included titles like Sullivans Crossing, Sweet Magnolias and Gilmore Girls. While other users chimed in, they largely avoided ranking the shows, instead one particular series quickly emerged as the fan favourite.
One user simply stated: “Hart of Dixie!!,” while another echoed this statement, writing: “Hart of Dixie! It’s a gem.”
While other users were quick to say the show was better than Virgin River. One fan expressed: “Hart of Dixie!! Best show ever. Dare I say better than Virgin River? (I love VR so this is saying a lot)” as a second agreed, penning: “I think Hart of Dixie is so much better than Virgin River.”
However one user made the connection between the shows, with Tim Matheson who plays Doc in Virgin River also having a role in Hart of Dixie. They stated: “Hart of Dixie is amazing!! Such a cute show! And Doc is Brick in that one…also playing the owner of a clinic. You’ll love it!”

Hart of Dixie has similar themes as Virgin River, as the CW series centres around the driven Zoe Hart, who relocates to the quiet town of Bluebell, Alabama, to work as a general practitioner after her dreams to become a heart surgeon fail.

Her arrival and growing infatuation with local lawyer George Tucker cause tension, particularly with his fiancée, Lemon Breeland, who develops a plan to push Zoe out of their tight-knit community.
Matheson, known for his role as Doc Vernon Mullins in Virgin River, plays Lemons father Brick Breeland, another medic at the clinic Zoe finds herself working in.

The official IMDb synopsis reads: “New Yorker and new doctor Zoe Hart accepts an offer from a stranger, Dr. Harley Wilkes, to work in his medical practice in Bluebell, Alabama. She arrives to find that he has died and left half the practice to her in his will.”
Hart of Dixie ran for four seasons from 2011 to 2015 and was widely loved by viewers who were disappointed when it never got renewed for a fifth season and was cancelled by the network. The series holds an impressive 81 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Thankfully for fans hoping to get their Virgin River fix before season seven drops, all four seasons, which feature 22 episodes each, are available to stream for free of ITVX.
