General Hospital’s Cameron Mathison Talks Drew’s Wrongful Shooting Accusation Aimed To Gain Leverage

General Hospital spoilers suggest that from the moment Drew Cain was shot, many fans were hoping he would exit the ABC soap. Alas, while the character’s portrayer, Cameron Mathison, is grateful to still be on the show, he also knows that Drew’s got an agenda and he’s not above accusing the wrong person of shooting him to gain leverage.

Drew Cain’s Long List of Suspects

Mathison recently sat down with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) to talk about Drew’s shooting and awakening. In regard to Drew waking up during the Tuesday, September 9 show, the actor notes that he could hear millions of GH fans screaming, “nnnnooooo,” in unison. He adds, “I could feel it as I fluttered my eyes open! I was like, ‘Yeah, here you go, everybody — I’m not gone yet!’”

He also admitted that, as Drew has so many enemies in Port Charles, he thought he would be a goner, “1000 percent”. They decided against killing Drew, and Mathison told SOD, “I have so much gratitude for being on the show and there’s no negativity or anything like that, but as soon as [Drew’s descent into villainy] started happening, of course, I was thinking about that.

I’ve been around the block long enough to know when you can sort of smell somebody getting ready to be sacrificed for a better story, you know what I mean?”

Mathison added with a grin that his character is a “good villain” and Drew sticking around is good for him (and for GH storylines, as he does bring the drama, right?)

No Redemption Storyline Here – Drew’s Shooting Accusation

For GH fans hoping for a road to redemption for Drew, this doesn’t look like it’ll be the case. Mathison points out that within moments of waking up, Drew was ready to exploit this crime.

The actor points out how bad he wants Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) back, and in order to do so, he needs to get her kids back. As such, Drew’s number one mission is to target Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson), whether the man shot him or not … even though Drew kind of sort of believes Michael is the culprit.
