What Was Carly’s Plan?

Saying that she knew that Drew or Liz or somebody was going to blab to Anna that she had threatened to kill Congressman Cutthroat, Carly confessed as much to the police chief. Natch, Carly also insisted that she hadn’t done the deed. But what a clever red herring to throw into the investigation if she did!

Carly would assume that Anna would assume that no way would the actual guilty party admit to making such a threat. In Carly’s mind, it’s probably as good as a foolproof alibi. “I copped to this bad thing I did, so obviously, I didn’t do that other, worse one!”

Where’s the Flaw in Carly’s Plan?

The trouble is, Carly’s actual alibi is Brennan — and Anna knows from experience how good he is at bending the truth until it snaps. So Carly’s attempt to avert suspicion by confessing her death wish — well, her wish that Drew would die! — is likely to backfire, resulting in Anna working double-time to find out whether she is whodunit.
