Relying on his usual deceptive ways, John blackmailed Caleb Dingle over the murder of Anthony Fox, having helped Caleb’s wife Ruby dispose of the body. He asked Caleb to help him escape abroad to start a new life, but will a torn Caleb give in to John’s demands?
The episode began with John at Victoria Sugden’s cottage, carrying a syringe. Glaring at a photo of Robert Sugden, it was clear that he had plans to poison his nemesis and was lying in wait for Robert’s return.

However, his opportunity never came, as returning to the cottage, Victoria let her son Harry in and sat outside with Robert on a bench, reflecting on recent events.
Victoria told Robert her doubts about John and questioned whether he even loved and valued her as a sister. John eavesdropped on the conversation and was heartbroken by Victoria’s admission, sneaking out of the cottage and abandoning his plan.
John then turned up at Caleb’s depot and revealed his newly hatched plan to escape prison. He reminded Caleb that he knew where Anthony’s body was and that he could lead the police there to discover it.

Caleb pushed back at John’s threat, telling him that he believed he’d be able to pin Anthony’s murder on him and that it would be believable given his track record.
However, John reminded Caleb that Ruby’s DNA was all over Anthony’s body.
“Do you want your wife to go to prison?” John said. “Next truck going to Europe, you get me inside. Meet me here alone at 2pm.”

Later, Caleb turned up at the agreed time, with John joining him in the car for a chat. Caleb told John that he would be driving a truck to Rotterdam tomorrow morning and that John could hide inside it.
“See you tomorrow,” John replied, leaving Caleb alone in the car.
