Emmerdale had to incorporate some real-life drama into Mary Goskirk’s latest scenes after actor Louise Jameson sustained an injury – here’s an explainer on this blend of fact and fiction!
Monday’s (22 September) episode of the ITV soap saw the manhunt for John Sugden continue, with the villain hiding out in Victoria Sugden’s house as he contemplated delivering one final act of revenge over Robert Sugden.

As the village were still reeling from the discovery of John’s sinister acts, Tracy Robinson headed to the pub with her family, where she spotted that Mary was walking around with a cane to assist her.
“So, did you have a fall?” she asked as she was handed a glass of wine, with Mary promptly responding: “No, I did it bungee jumping”. She soon reached out to Cain Dingle, who was left raging following John’s crimes.

Mary’s injury had to be written into the episode after Jameson confirmed via X in May that she had “taken the ‘break a leg” advice to its extreme” after suffering a “boring old fall”, with the actor having to cancel stage performances as a result.
While Mary was hobbling around and John was planning his exit strategy, the episode saw Mackenzie Boyd speak with Aaron Dingle following their horrific ordeal, with the pair sharing a candid conversation as they recovered in hospital.
With Mack back on the mend, actor Lawrence Robb shared that his character was “relieved” to head home, adding that he was “looking forward to rebuilding” his relationship with Charity Dingle.
Unbeknownst to him, Charity slept with Ross Barton, as she incorrectly assumed that Mack had left her, with Robb explaining: “Mack doesn’t necessarily have a leg to stand on, because he did do a very similar thing with Chloe a couple of years ago.
“I think because it’s Ross it probably is more poignant for him because he doesn’t like him at all. Ross nearly killed him three, four months ago, so they’ve never really seen eye-to-eye and a lot of that is because of Moses and the dynamic that holds.”
“It would be very, very difficult for him to get over it,” continued the actor, who added that Mack would carry “emotional and physical scars” following his time in the bunker at the hands of John.
