Viewers know that April has been at the centre of a hard-hitting storyline about County Lines drug dealing. In previous scenes, April and Dylan Penders had been coerced into dealing drugs to repay their debts with Ray Walters.
In the new episode, Ray was revealed to be but a pawn, as viewers found out Celia was the real mastermind of the drug operation. But how did we get here?

The episode kicked off with Marlon Dingle and Rhona Goskirk asking April to look after Leo while they were at work. She agreed but had to go when Ray messaged her with a new job. Leaving Leo on her own, April didn’t realise she’d dropped some pills.
April’s carelessness led to Rhona and Marlon coming back home to a collapsed Leo, who had taken one of the ecstasy pills. The couple called an ambulance, with April returning just as Leo was rushed to the hospital.
There, Rhona and Marlon were informed that Leo’s seizure was caused by drugs and that social services would be involved.
Dylan caught wind of what happened to Leo and told Ray, who ordered him to make sure April had a good cover story. As the girl intended to tell the police about her illicit gig, she bumped into Celia at the hospital.
Believing her to be a kind stranger, April took up her offer to go for a hot chocolate before speaking with the police.
“I’ve really messed up,” April told Celia, spilling the beans about her drug dealing.
Celia tried to convince April to keep quiet. Seeing that kindness didn’t get her far with the teen, the farmer turned violent and slapped her.
“Now you listen to me, ungrateful little wretch,” Celia said. “You lost Ray thousands of pounds, and this is how you repay him?”
Celia revealed herself to be Ray’s boss to a shocked April.
“If you say one word about where you got those drugs from, we would have to retaliate,” Celia said, threatening to hurt Leo and kill April.
Celia then came up with a cover story for April to tell the police, but Rhona remained unconvinced.

In the final scenes, another twist confirmed that Ray’s relationship to Celia was closer than viewers ever suspected.
A ruthless Celia told off Ray for being “too soft” with April as she expressed regret for having adopted him. As scared of Celia as anyone else, Ray shrunk in her presence, agreeing to go tougher on April.
“I raised you at considerable expense. I gave you everything you could ever need,” Celia told her adoptive son. “And this is how you’ve turned out.”

Speaking on tonight’s double whammy, Celia star Jaye Griffiths teased “lots more drama to come” in what’s sure to be a prominent storyline for Emmerdale.
“At last the audience have seen the familial link between her and Ray and the fact she is the mastermind behind it all,” Griffiths said.
“There is lots more drama to come but I feel that the context of the whole operation is now apparent and so the audience will now be fearing how trapped these kids are as it’s very clear Celia and Ray are not beginners at this.”
