Per Deadline, S.W.A.T. Exiles will allow the entire production crew to keep their jobs for a little while longer as the 10-episode series continues the adventures of Hondo in an unexpected way. Instead of leading a team of seasoned veterans, Exiles will instead feature the complicated specialist commanding a ragtag group of hopefuls:
“After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is.”
News of S.W.A.T. Exiles comes right after the flagship series wrapped its eighth and final season on May 16. “My eight seasons on S.W.A.T. have been epic and memorable,” Moore said in a statement released this past weekend. “We entertained the world, defied the odds, came back from the dead twice, and continued to woo fans and families worldwide. I am excited for this next generation and iteration of S.W.A.T. with Sony.”
When Will ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ Premiere?

Does that mean that it could potentially come to Paramount+? Maybe, but for now, SPT Studios President Katherine Pope is focused on the immediate future. “We couldn’t be more excited to bring the next chapter of S.W.A.T. to life — both for our incredibly dedicated fans of the original franchise and for a new generation of viewers,” she said, adding:
“We’re grateful to our incredible partners Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Jason Ning and Shemar Moore for embarking on this journey with us. This team’s commitment to the global fanbase, to our beloved crew and to our city runs deep!”
While where S.W.A.T. Exiles lands remains to be seen, we’re just glad that the series is sticking around one way or the other. In the landscape of cop dramas, this one has certainly been a wild ride, so to know that Moore will be back to reign in a bunch of millennials makes us giddy to see which direction it will take. Who knows, maybe it’ll defy the odds yet again to last beyond another 10 episodes. We’ll have more news on S.W.A.T. Exiles as it becomes available, but in the meantime, you can stream all eight seasons of the original on Paramount+.
