General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal that the upcoming storyline of the ABC soap is something fans have both anticipated and feared. The ABC soap opera is now confronting the death of actress Leslie Charleson, who died in January after a prolonged illness.
Monica Quartermaine Died Offscreen Last Week
Monica Quartermaine, her character, passed away off-screen last week, and Cameron Mathison discusses Drew Cain’s terrible response to Monica’s death-what should GH fans expect? Since Jason Quartermaine (Steve Burton) lost his memory many years ago, he has been referred to as “Stone Cold.” However, discovering his mother, Monica, dead stirred feelings in the character that he hadn’t experienced in a long time.
Steve Burton has portrayed Jason since 1991, sharing hundreds, if not thousands, of scenes with Leslie Charleson throughout the years. She became part of GH in 1977 as Monica.
Jane Elliot Came On Board As Tracy Quartermaine About A Year Later Than Leslie Charleson
Jane Elliot joined the ABC soap a year later as Tracy Quartermaine, sister to Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon); initially, Monica was married to Jeff Webber (then Richard Dean Anderson).
For over forty years, Monica and Tracy were in conflict-however, as time passed, their relationship changed into one of mutual respect and even friendship. When Jason informed Tracy of Monica’s death, she was heartbroken.
Steve Burton and Jane Elliot received high praise on social media for their performances as the grieving characters. The news of Monica’s passing continues to circulate in Port Charles, resulting in more heartbreaking reactions.

Drew Has A Horrific Reaction To Monica’s Death
However, one character reacts unexpectedly to the loss; Monica and her son, Drew, had a disagreement months prior to her passing and never made amends.
Cameron Mathison shares his character’s “terrible” response following the loss of his mother- Cameron Mathison began playing Drew in 2021.
Over the past year, the character has taken on a villainous role, resulting in him losing the Quartermaine name.
Earlier this month, the Congressman was shot by an unidentified attacker. Drew was still recovering in the hospital when he learned about Monica’s death.
Cameron Mathison Talked About His Character’s Reaction To His Mother’s Death
The actor spoke with Soaps.com regarding Drew’s response to his mother’s passing; “Monica’s death is extremely traumatic for him-whether she raised him or not, she referred to him as her son.
He referred to her as his mom-there was a very significant connection between them,” he stated; Drew’s sorrow leads him to react in a manner that Cameron Mathison describes as “terrible”.
“It’s so awful,” he remarked-what does Drew do, he stops Jason’s son, Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn), from comforting Scout Cain (Cosette Abinante), Drew’s daughter, about the loss of their grandmother.
Danny and Scout’s mother, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), was killed last year-this cruel action is intended to hurt Jason by targeting his son.
Cameron Talked About Why Drew Hates His Brother So Much
Cameron Mathison shared his thoughts on Drew’s intense dislike for his brother. “Drew harbors a great deal of animosity and resentment towards Jason, who is out there actually taking lives yet is still regarded as a hero.
Jason has always managed to convince the Quartermaines that he’s the favored one,” he explained. Drew’s quest for revenge against Jason on GH won’t conclude with harming Danny.
Stay tuned to discover what further actions Drew will take in his battle against his brother.
