Neighbours star Matt Wilson has explained why his character Aaron Brennan left the soap ahead of its final episode.
Back in February, Neighbours confirmed that it had been cancelled again after Amazon failed to renew the Australian soap, which was first axed back in 2022.

In Monday’s episode, Aaron said goodbye to Ramsay Street, leaving with his on-screen partner Rhett Norman (Liam Maquire) just months before its final ever episode is due to air in December.
Explaining his decision to leave the soap, Wilson said he found it difficult to be away from his young family and to travel from his home in Queensland.

Speaking to TV Tonight, the soap actor, who is due to return for the final episode, said his exit put producers in a tough situation with having to explain why Aaron would leave his daughter Isla behind.
“It’s a very, very tough position I put them in,” Wilson said.
“I wasn’t too sure about how this was ending up. It is a very difficult thing to get Aaron to leave the street when he’s got so much established there. He’s got Nicolette there. He’s got Isla there. He’s got so many friends, his entire life set up.
“But I’ll miss his zest for life and the energy that he brings to any scene. Aaron doesn’t really buy into the drama as much as other people do. And that’s kind of refreshing, I guess.”
Meanwhile, Wilson addressed his exit in a touching video, which was posted to the official Neighbours Instagram account.
On how the soap helped him to grow as an actor during his decade on screen, Wilson said: “Thank you for staying with me, because I know I wasn’t the sharpest at the very beginning with my acting. But I’ve worked on it and it’s been ten years, and I hope I’m a little bit better by now.”
